Patricia Field Is Closing Her Bowery Boutique

Fashion extraordinaire Patricia Field is closing her namesake boutique at 306 Bowery for good. The New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman tweeted her despair this morning:

Patricia Field is closing her NY store next spring. And so an era draws to a close.....

"I started my store when I was 24 years old and it has lead me onto all the wonderful professional roads I have taken," the Emmy-winning 74-year-old said to the New York Daily News (she won in 2002 for 'Sex and the City' and in 2009 for 'Ugly Betty'). Field added that she's looking forward to continuing her "film and television work, styling, designing, and pursuing brand new projects that have been offered to me that I ave not had time to develop."

In 2012, Field opened this two-level store two doors down from her former space, combining her old apartment with an empty store behind it. In addition to pink boas, embellished jeans, and custom jewelry, the costume designer offered beauty services in her store. The boutique began in the West Village in 1966 before moving to 10 East 8th Street in 1971.

"I felt that now was the right time," she continued to the paper. "I feel extremely proud of what I have been able to accomplish in these 50 years and am excited and inspired by what's to come."
