The West Village Sample Sale With Designer Sunglasses and Costume Jewelry

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Though most of this month's sample sales aren't taking off until well after the holiday weekend, Sucre's sample sale kicked off at the end of June and is going through the middle of July. And the annual event for the accessories-focused branch of the Selima Optique mini-chain has a dual meaning this year: A sales associate told us that the store will close at 357 Bleecker Street in mid-August and is currently hunting for a nearby location on a side street in the neigborhood.

But in the meantime, support a local shop by grabbing a new pair of sunglasses or jewelry for less—in some cases, up to 70% off. The on-sale sunglasses are gathered on a table and all uniformly 50% off, putting the price range starting at $90 each for a white-framed Selima Optique pair or classic black Ray Bans and going up to $217.50 for Giorgio Armani aviators, with pairs from YSL, Cutler & Gross, and Stolen Girlfriends Club falling somewhere in between. Check out the gallery above for an idea of what you'll find.

The sale jewelry is split between two cases, one of which is a bit more costume-y with the likes of Lulu Frost. Here, we spotted everything from architectural rings at $40, earrings that mimic wings for $97, and intricate necklaces and bracelets starting at $100 and going to $225 and beyond. The other has lots of Jemma Sands pieces that rely on natural stones and muted gold chains, with prices ranging from $114 for a large stone ring to $350 for a long onyx pendant necklace.

Stop in if you're looking for a cute accessories upgrade for the summer to layer over a winning uniform of tee-shirts and denim cutoffs while both supporting local businesses and keeping a promise to yourself to never pay full-price. Check out the sale's hours in the Dealfeed below.
