Ben Sherman Will Eventually Close in Soho, and the Sale's Already Started

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Get your British menswear and accessories now, because come next year, Ben Sherman's Soho store — and only NYC outpost — will be closing its doors. As a tipster initially told us, outside 96 Spring Street are giant signs boasting all merchandise at 20% to 50% off, with "nothing held back." While none of the signs expressly say that it's closing, a sales associate told us over the phone that these drastic deals are indeed in preparation for the store's departure from the city.

Not a single item is without a discount. All outerwear, button-downs, tee shirts, chinos, and knitwear is 20% off; suit separates, shoes, denim, socks, and wallets are 30% off; and belts, bags, and underwear are 40% off. The 50% discount seems to only apply to a small wall of hats, but at least there's an extra 40% off all clearance items.

The savings are pretty intense, but a distinct lack of shoppers at the sale could be an indication of why it's happening in the first place. While an associate told us the sale is slated to go on until "December or January," it seems odd that a closing sale could last so long with what seems like such lukewarm enthusiasm right off the bat from its customers, so we'll see how long it actually lasts.
