The James Perse Sample Sale Is a Rainbow of $30 Tees

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The James Perse sample sale is all about the basics. We checked out the preview last night, where we found men's and women's clothing at up to 75% off retail.

There is a TON of stock. Sizes range from 0 to 4 (extra-small to extra-large) and most of the styles are well stocked in sizes 0 through 3.

In the women's department, prices start at $15 for sports bras, while tees are the cheapest men's option at $30. On the higher end, men's and women's jackets are $90, and there are some special collection items (mostly sweaters and outerwear) available for $120. See the full price list in the gallery.

Note: prices were posted for accessories including bags, hats, totes, Birkenstocks and home goods (duvets, sheets, blankets and books) but they were not present during the preview. A sale organizer told us that there might be a shipment during the week but they are not sure when.

For women looking to build their summer wardrobes, basic tank tops are $20, skirts and shorts are $50, and dresses are $60. We liked many of the striped tees and maxi dresses, as well as the silky novelty tops which are priced at $45. The sale has a section for James Perse's activewear collection 'Yosemite,' where sweatshirts are $40 and tees are $30.

We also spotted long-sleeve tees for $40, long belted jackets for $90 to $120, and cashmere, wool, and alpaca blend sweaters for $75 to $120 (special collection). There's a stack of knit scarves by the cash registers for $75.

In the men's section, you'll find long-sleeve tees ($40), knit tops ($45), jackets ($90), sweaters ($75), and bottoms (including denim, cargo pants, and jogging pants) for $60. There are also graphic tops for $50, polo shirts for $50 and button-down shirts for $60, as well as a few coats and puffy vests in the mix.

We liked a 100% cashmere camel button-down sweater with an original retail price of $795 on sale for $120 and a soft baby blue cashmere sweater for $120 (originally $395). There are also some stylish Yosemite options for men, perfect for stepping outside in your PJ's to pick up something from your local bodega.

There are dressing rooms for both men and women in the back. Cash and credit cards are accepted. The sale runs through Sunday.—Hsini
