Where NYC’s Fashion People Liked to Shop and Get Pretty in 2015

Jessica Schiffer, senior online editor, V Magazine: "Self Salon in Williamsburg and Bushwick was my go-to for hair, giving me the balls to chop off a ton of it earlier this year. For waxing, I either stuck with good old Elizabeth Arden Red Door or a little-known spot called Serenity Beauty Spa in Brooklyn. I never get my nails done because I only have so much energy to expend on patriarchal demands (i.e. I bite them). Shopping-wise, I lived online at Need Supply and Net-a-Porter, but bought loads of books and stationary at the #1 homie Spoonbill and Sugar Town."

Shira Suveyke, co-president and chief merchant, The Outnet: "The opening of the Erno Laszlo Institute in New York City was a major happening this year — the bespoke facial treatment is a game changer."

Desiree Verdejo, owner, Vivrant Beauty: "In 2015, I found a few gems hidden in my Harlem neighborhood. I don't want to give them all away, but one would be Bibi Salon. A lot of stylists claim to work with all hair textures, but at Bibi they actually do, so I've finally found a salon home for my curls."

"Another 2015 favorite is Flamekeeper's Hat Club. Before finding this stylish, well-curated shop, I certainly wasn't a hat person. Now I find myself considering hats as a perfect finishing touch for a look."

Karen Lord, Pilates instructor and owner, Karen Lord Pilates Movement: "Marie Robinson is definitely my go-to for hair! My favorite downtown shopping spots are conveniently close together, so if I'm in the neighborhood I always drop by Acne (the shop where my dog Wolfie realized she prefers Swedish sparkling bottled water — seriously, they spoil you), visit the awesome ladies at Isabel Marant to see what's new, and stock up on my favorite candles at Diptyque. Love Adorned is another favorite, I always leave with something special, they sell treasures."

Michelle Smith, designer, Milly: "I started using the Glamsquad app this year for when I can't get to the salon."

Alicia Yoon, owner, Peach and Lily: "I love vintage everything, so Pilgrim New York remained a favorite. For clothes that work with more petite figures, my go-to is Aritzia. For facials, I had my first treatment from Joanna Vargas this year, and I was amazed by her gentle yet effective facials. I like that I can walk out of there with visible results and zero irritation. For beauty stores, we just opened our first Peach and Lily brick-and-mortar store in Macy's — at the risk of making a shameless plug — and that store has been my beauty paradise filled with my favorite beauty products, a skin imaging device, and a soothing and uplifting ambience. I cherish the time I get to spend there."

Amy Yee, owner, Maeven Vintage: "I moved out of South Williamsburg and funnily enough, have spent more time shopping there than I ever have before, places like Oroboro, Sword-Smith, and Karkula. I'm really happy with new Greenpoint home stores Adaptations and Home of the Brave."
