Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Midtown is about to get a lot more minimalist. We heard rumors that COS was going to replace the H&M that closed on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street last month, and now the Swedish brand has just confirmed our suspicions for themselves. A blast from their publicists promises a 2015 opening, but doesn't further specify an opening date, or even a season (don't toy with us again, guys).

However, don't expect the mega-store that H&M once was: COS specifies that they're taking exactly "3,982 square feet of sales area" here, while their lower-priced sister label had nearly seven times that. So now we're left to wonder how they're going to divide up the space (maybe they'll get tips from FAO Schwarz), and, more importantly, who will be joining them. Perhaps & Other Stories could use a midtown home, too...

Update: A previous version of this article specified that the store would be 3,357 square feet, which is about 1/8 the size of the H&M that previously occupied this address.
