The Vintage Sample Sale in the Garment District With Incredible One-of-a-Kind Pieces

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Those looking for unique vintage clothing can check out Morphew Concept's archive sample sale that opened yesterday afternoon in the Garment District. Once you get out of the elevator, head straight back and make a left to find the apparel that's up for sale. There are two racks outside the room against the wall as well.

All pieces are authentic, one-of-a-kind, and incorporate some kind of unique element of design. Intended as inspiration for designers, the sale is full of whimsical, beautiful, and striking pieces. While some pieces are designer, we were told that items are sourced based on elements of design — so you may not find that vintage Chanel or Balenciaga you had in mind. We didn't happen to see any labels that we recognized, but you never know.

Apparel in the sale room is organized by era or by design element, such as beading or crochet. Standout pieces include a magnificent long-sleeved wedding dress from the 1940s with a long train and an embellished slip dress with feathers both at the hem and at one shoulder. There are plenty of dresses, blouses, and tops, as well as a few leather jackets and styles of pants — check out more in the gallery above.

Most items are priced at $88, down from $550 and up, and we did spot a few blouses for $48. Some of the dresses are still a little pricy, with a few running between $288 and $388.

Overall, we recommend checking out this sale, even if it's just to look. There are some truly odd, gorgeous, and inspiring pieces that are definitely worth seeing. There is a changing room in the back, and the sale runs through 6pm; check out the Dealfeed below for more details.
