Yes, You're Allowed to Breastfeed in NYC Stores

As any new mom knows (or should know!), you're legally allowed to breastfeed in public. Anywhere that you're allowed to be normally — so, not an apartment you broke into —you're allowed to feed your baby. Last July, however, a Century 21 employee told a mother otherwise, and now the department store is paying the price.

Crain's reports that the New York attorney general has made an agreement with Century 21 after the employee told a woman to leave the sales floor and continue nursing in the fitting room. The department store must now publicly acknowledge the legal right of mothers to breastfeed in public and pay the city $5,000, which will be used for breastfeeding support programs for new mothers. So next time you go into Century 21 to breastfeed, feel free to do so wherever you please.
