American Apparel Is Selling Its Lower East Side Mannequins on Craigslist

Yesterday, one of the first American Apparel stores to arrive in New York City shut its doors. The company, in the midst of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, seems to be hinting that its memorable store at 183 East Houston Street didn't make the cut because of its performance, but a statement we received from American Apparel yesterday says otherwise:

"This store closure is a next step in implementing our previously announced turnaround plan, which includes closing underperforming locations and investing in new stores in promising areas."

Regardless of why the store no longer exists, everything inside of it needs to go — including its mannequins. Bowery Boogie is reporting that the brand is using Craigslist to get rid of its furniture like standing racks and mirrors, plus window dressing accessories. So for just $50, you can take home a mannequin and recreate your favorite window display. Everything must go by the end of the day, and cash is the only form of acceptable payment.
