At Otte's West Village Sale, Most Spring Apparel is Half-Off

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The doors were already open when we arrived at Otte's West Village store just before 11am to check out the clearance sale that began this morning—it's a precursor to the boutique's renovation that'll begin after the Fourth of July—with about ten shoppers browsing the racks in the small space for discounts advertised to be up to 80% off some high-end spring collections. However, the vast majority of what we picked up was closer to 50% off (if that), making this on par with the typical end-of-season sales going on right now.

Where you'll find the biggest discounts—even more than 80%, in some cases—are in the six bins at the front of the room that are marked between $35 and $75. The selection is pretty limited (one bin is solely printed Otte New York shorts), but we also spotted Iro skinny jeans for $50, and Otte New York silky cobalt slip dress for $49 (from $288), and a fun lime green Kenzo skirt for $50, all the way down from $730. If you're already looking forward to fall, grab some lightweight wool sweaters from the house brand in a variety of colors for $95 apiece.

On the racks, which are organized by color, you'll be hard-pressed to find something whose price tag has only two digits. Some of our favorites included an Alexander Wang mesh pencil skirt for $375 (from $625), a Chinti and Parker sweater with a cute pineapple cartoon on the sleeve for $353.50 (from $505), and a striped Rag + Bone sweater for $95 (from $305). Scroll through the gallery above for some more options.

Everything on the denim wall is pretty much half-off as well, with pairs from Citizen of Humanity going for $144 (from $288) and some J Brand skinnies at $166 (from $240). A tiny selection of swimwear is made up of mostly Mara Hoffman and is slightly more expensive than what was at her sample sale last weekend, with a printed v-line bikini top going for $60 (from $121; sample prices were $20—$40). Some of these are mixed in a bin with a bunch of bralettes, like a blood-colored For Love and Lemons lacy number for $84.70.

In the accessories department, we spotted an Alexander Wang crossbody for $577, down from $825. There's also a bunch of shoes for a variety of seasons, like Joie slides in rose gold and ecru for $94.50 and the famous—or infamous—Isabel Marant sneaker wedge for $250 (from $695). And while a bunch of sandal styles are on display, be sure to check under the racks on the right-hand side for boxes with heels and boots—we spotted four pairs of Rag + Bone Newbury booties in the back corner for 50% off ($262.50).

The sale is running daily from 11:30am to 7:30pm (Sundays are 12pm to 6pm) through July 3rd, and there's a couple fitting rooms in the back that are open for try-ons. And while we're not sure if there will be more merchandise to hit the floor, markdowns are likely towards the sale's end, as we overheard a staffer saying today. Let's keep our fingers crossed for more pieces that are under $100.
