Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Nancy Gonzalez sample sale opened this morning at 5 East 57th Street — it's the first time that the brand has brought customers into its showroom — and we stopped by a bit later on in the day to check it out. This sale, where most bags are about 70% off retail prices, is more for deals than steals: While we were perusing (camera-less, as per the sale's policy), a staff member announced a "ten-minute flash sale" that further reduced the prices of bags on a particular table — so you may get lucky with additional discounts.

There are exotic skin bags in so many shapes and colors, and pricing is marked by a tag with a color-coded sticker. A large green sticker means $2,100, pink is $1,900, blue is $1,700, and purple is $1,400. Large clutches with a yellow sticker are $1,200, while those with neon orange are $750 (but an orange sticker on a python clutch meant that it was $500). Gotham bags and wallets on a chain are $775, and box clutches are $350 (or $250 if it's python). Finally, belts are $200 each, or two for $350.

There are two tables stacked with clutches and bags, and the rest of the merchandise is arranged on shelves along the walls or on the windowsills. Styles of note include a small pink crocodile backpack for $1,400, a blue Lady crocodile satchel for $1,700, and fur backpacks in pink, brown, and green for $2,100. We also noted some fringed crocodile clutches in a few colorways for $1,200. You'll find box clutches on the windowsill on the left-hand side of the room; python ($250) were not as prevalent as crocodile ($350), but shoppers seemed to be gravitating towards the larger totes anyway.

Since this is being advertised as a "flash sample and stock sale," be sure you stick around to hear at least one of those discount announcements. It runs through Thursday at 6pm, and you can see the Dealfeed below for more details.
