Narnia Vintage Shutters Its Lower East Side Store After 13 Years

Two stores has become too much for Molly Spaulding. The owner of Narnia Vintage has decided to close the clothing store's original location at 161 Rivington Street, according to local blog The Lo Down. The Williamsburg outpost that she opened in 2012, luckily, will remain open.

The consolidation of these two locations isn't an indication of a rent increase, surprisingly. "Part of it is that I'm tired," she admitted, while the other part is that the Williamsburg store just makes more sense: It's larger, has a backyard, and "it benefits from a fair amount of foot traffic" on Driggs Avenue—something that the Rivington Street store lacked. Though vintage hunters will go out of their way for shopping trips, the chance for catching customers from the more centralized boutiques around Ludlow and Orchard Streets "kind of fizzled out after a couple of years."

While the boutique's moving sale has already finished, Spaulding still has the space through the end of June, and The Lo Down says she plans to hold some (unspecified) special events before then—check back on Narnia's Facebook page for updates.
