Here's What That Governors Island Day Spa Will Look Like

Governors Island: former Colonial-era fort, current host of the Jazz Age Lawn Party, future spa? There's been word of one coming to the island since 2013, but now, however, it appears that plans are underway: DNAinfo reports that the spa will debut in summer 2017 as Governors Island's first commercial tenant.

QC Terme, which operates multiple spas across Italy, will turn three of the historic buildings into spas, including spaces for saunas, two restaurants, and outdoor pools for $60 or $70 per day, with extra costs for certain treatments. Children under 14, who normally make up a relatively high percentage of the island's visitors, won't be allowed.

"This will be like nothing else in New York City," Stefano Farsura, one of the spas' owners told the publication. "We want this to be an affordable place, with the best views of the city—a quiet place of accessibility for everyone."

Another surprise: though Governors Island is currently only open to visitors during the summer, by the time QC Terme opens, it'll have completed its long-term plans to become a year-round destination.
