Samples Start at $50 at Tracy Reese, and There Are Plenty of Them

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Tracy Reese sample sale began this morning in the designer's Garment District showroom, and there's plenty of her signature bright prints and colors for summer style. A huge selection of dresses (from sheaths to maxis) are the highlight here, along with a healthy selection of tops, skirts, and shorts—plus lots of true samples that start at $50.

Signs over each rack designate the items' label—either the signature Tracy Reese or diffusion Plenty by Tracy Reese, as well as whether they're production runs or samples. Tracy Reese prices are as follows: Dresses are $150; jersey dresses are $100; and sweaters, tops, pants, and skirts are all $95; and samples are $65. With Plenty by Tracy Reese, there's dresses for $100; jersey dresses, sweaters, blouses, pants, and skirts for $75; and jersey tops for $50, which is the same price as the samples.

On the lefthand side where you walk in (after checking your bag), are Tracy Reese dresses first, followed by a few samples. While items here come in sizes 0 through 12, 0s through 4s were the most common, while 6s through 8s had the least stock to begin with (note that samples were generally 0 to 4 as well).

On this dress rack, we saw a persimmon strapless dress and lagoon blue maxi each going for $150, a nouveau shift dress for $65 (was $328), and an ivory sparkle pullover for $95. We also loved a sample small leaf abstract narrow skirt for $50 (was $248).

In the next room are racks with both tops and bottoms mixed together. We liked a magenta pocket mini skirt for $65 (was $198) and a flared midi skirt for $65 (was $348).

Farther along is the Plenty samples and stock. We liked a Henley tunic for $75, an astral blue Zoe dress for $50 (was $158), and a floral Sasha dress for $100. On the righthand side are more Tracy Reese clothes, like a scallop wrap chemise for $65, a blue paisley cardigan for $95 (was $238), and a leopard-patterned shirt for $95.

Throughout both collections, there is a large amount of samples—particularly Sasha dresses. The staff mentioned bringing out show samples later today, so we'd stop by this evening or tomorrow to check those out.

Be aware that items are getting switched around on the racks as customers discard what they're not purchasing, so double-check the prices of what you're getting with a sales associate before hitting the register. This sale runs through Friday afternoon; check out the Dealfeed below for hours.
