Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Sad news, ya'll: Drybar, that rapidly expanding home of the $40 blowout, is raising prices on its most beloved service. Well + Good reports that the brand sent out the unfortunate email this week, informing patrons that as of June 15th, all blowouts will cost $45.

A PR rep confirmed the news, adding that uptinis (updos) will increase from $80 to $90, and Shirley Temples (children's services) from $28 to $32. Barfly memberships, however, will remain at $75 per month for two blowouts a month.

The reason? Naturally, it's the same as it always is: NYC is expensive. We're crossing our fingers that competitors Dreamdry, Blo, or Fix don't follow suit.
