It's Official: 'China' Is the Most-Attended Met Costume Institute Exhibit

Still haven't visited "China: Through the Looking Glass?" If not, you're part of a dwindling number of locals and tourists who haven't yet stopped by the Met's Costume Institute's latest show—it just broke the record for the institution's most-attended fashion exhibit yet.

WWD reports that as of Sunday afternoon, the exhibit had attracted 671,234 visitors, eclipsing the record set by "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," which garnered 661,509. It also means that "China" is now the Met's eighth most attended Met exhibit of all time, a title which "Savage Beauty" held until this weekend—and there's still three weeks to go until it closes out its extended run over Labor Day.

What's the draw? It could be the international appeal of viewing garments by designers from around the globe, or the fact that it's a thoughtful, beautiful, and "surprisingly respectful" meditation on cultural appropriation. Another highly likely possibility: Unlike "Savage Beauty," there's no terrifyingly giant line that warranted a guide to surviving it.
