At Vivienne Westwood's Sample Sale, $89 Jackets and Plenty of Plaid

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Dame Vivienne Westwood is at it again with a four-day sample sale that started yesterday morning. We popped into 20 West 36th Street just after doors open at 10am today, which was thankfully line-less. Just five customers were shopping the men's and women's sections that were overflowing with bags, clothes, accessories, and just a smattering of shoes.

Women will find a variety of tops, skirts, and denim, but the real winners here are the outerwear and dresses. Items in the front half of the sale space are 60% off retail price (note that the percentages are taken off of the hanging tag at the register). Everything toward the windows in the back is 90% off — this is where the real gems are. We spotted calf-hair leopard boots for $69, blazers for $89, and a sequin ball gown for $502, marked down from $5,020.

There is an impressive display of women's bags and small accessories, and nothing is priced over $300, we heard a sales associate tell a customer. There are bikinis bottoms, scarves, phone covers, and wallets at discounted prices, too. Meanwhile, men have the option to shop dress shirts, plaid pants, tee shirts, hoodies, and blazers at 60% off.

There are dressing rooms in the back for both men and women. Be prepared to check your coat and bag, but keep your credit card out — cash will not be accepted. Check out the Dealfeed below for more details.
