Nearly Everything at the Diesel Sample Sale Is Truly 75% Off, Not 'Up to' (Update)

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Update: As of Friday morning, all merchandise is now 80% off its retail price. Original sale prices are listed below and in the gallery above.

With cooler temperatures creeping up, we're all in need of some rugged fall-wear and leather goods. Diesel's sample sale at 151 Wooster Street brings that and then some, as we discovered at last night's preview, with a true 75% discount on nearly everything for both men and women. Surprisingly, it also brought out a larger selection for men, with about 60% of the sale space dedicated to their clothing.

Enter and turn left to find a wall of almost entirely men's clothing and outerwear, the latter category in plenty of sizes and styles. A men’s gray Larcoty jacket with leather details is $590 (was $2,365), and a Lesang jacket in midnight blue is $607 (was $2,430). Men’s plaid shirts are $37 (from $148) and men’s sweaters run around $90 (was $360). Sizes run from 44 to 54, or XS to XXL. Bins in the center have men's denim, sizes 27 to 31.

The back area has bins of women's denim, priced $40 to $62 (were $158 to $250) in sizes 23 through 29. We saw a great pair of FiftyfiveDSL denim jeans for $30 (were $120) and a purple sweatshirt for $37 (was $148).

On the right hand side of the space are racks with everything from tank tops to outerwear. We liked a Patta puffer jacket in ombre gray for $250 (was $998), an Angus fur vest ($100, was $398), and an Anthracite trench for $324 (was $1,295). We also saw black leather pants for $246 (were $985), a metallic Mextile sweater for $174 (was $695), and a leather studded skirt at $424 (was $1,695).

Sizes lean toward either end of the spectrum — XS or XL — but there are a good amount of in-between options, at least for the time being. For these, we noted a few denim jackets for $57 (were $228) as well as a denim shirt for the same price (also was $228).

Beyond the black and gray leather were some more colorful pieces, like a blush Astrid jacket for $182 (was $728), a blue velvet blazer for $125 (was $498), and a purple fur overcoat for $125 (was $498).

In the middle, find bins with belts and scarves next to shelves of footwear — sorry, all sample sizes: men's shoes are size 43, while women's are 39. Boots are $75, sneakers (including a lot of high tops) are $35, dress shoes and heels are $40, and flats are just $25. Near the checkout are bags (also all 75% off, and priced as marked) and small accessories. Long leather gloves are $95 (were $380), and zip wallets are $38 (were $150).

Though most of the merchandise looked to be in good condition at first glance (minus wrinkles from storage), it never hurts to check: We overheard a male shopper scoffing at a scratch on a leather jacket, and noticed scuffs on several of the boots and dress shoes. There's more stuff for restocking, but with limited sizes and many one-off pieces as it was last night, your best plan is to stop by ASAP. The sale goes through Sunday; check out our Dealfeed below for hours.
