The J. Crew doubleheader sample sale began on Tuesday, with men's merchandise heading to 43 Wooster Street. We checked back in on the sale yesterday evening to see what's left from opening day and are happy to report that there is plenty of everything left to peruse.
There are still lots of options in the wool and cotton sweaters to the left-hand side ($35). The selection of cashmere sweaters ($90) isn't as robust, but there are still many left, including some in non-pastel colors. Size medium has the most options remaining, but all sizes really have plenty to choose from.
Across from the sweaters, the selection of jeans ($40) is still pretty good, save for size 28 running low. Where you can really see a difference in the merchandise selection is in the accessories on the tables with the jeans are very picked over, with a just a few pairs of boxers ($10) and some belts ($20) and ties ($20) remaining.
Luckily the outerwear selection hasn't suffered that same fate yet, but that section was the most crowded the whole time we were there. While the jackets, puffers, and vests ($60—$90) are still well-stocked, we noticed a lot of extra-smalls for vests and pea coats Nearby, we noticed that the number of racks sweatpants, hoodies, and pajamas ($20—$30) have been reduced.
Suiting's been picked over, too, despite plenty of merchandise still remaining. It's mostly size 30s left in the trousers ($70—$150) in a variety of colors, while linen styles make up most of what's left for blazers ($120), and there is only one rack of vests ($65) to browse.
In shirting, there are tons of tees, polos, and sport shirts up for grabs in both prints and solid colors. We also saw two racks of shorts, with brightly colored chinos taking up most of that space. For shoes, we saw plenty of styles and stock in all sizes from 7.5—13+. Most are priced at $100, and loafers in both suede and leather were among the best options. Bins of chinos and other pants are on a table towards the back of the room and are going for $25, but sizes 35, 36, and 38 are running low.
In this case, it may be worth it to wait for those supposed markdowns since there is so much merchandise left and good sizing options in most categories. But, if you're looking for something specific, we suggest heading over sooner rather than later — the sale runs through Sunday at 5pm.
