Tory Burch Sued By Soho Landlord For Damaging Neighboring Building

Tory Burch's ambitious plans to renovate its Soho flagship, which include building a four-story townhouse and potential roof garden, has already been in the works for more than a year — but now, they're causing major problems. Landlord Herbert Moskowitz, who owns the building next door, is suing the designer for property damages.

The New York Daily News reports that the suit alleges that the construction at 151 Mercer Street has "shifted and damaged" the property at 153 Mercer Street, requiring "extensive and costly repairs." Moskowitz is suing for more than $500,000, as well as legal fees, and is also attempting to halt construction on the store until the damages are fixed.

What's worse is that 153 Mercer Street is a 130-year-old landmarked building. The Post reports that since its foundation has shifted by a half-inch, the five-story elevator is no longer operable. A Tory Burch spokesman responded, saying that "The company denies the allegations made in the complaint. We always strive to work with the finest partners and maintain high standards on any project we undertake."
