La Garconne's Amazing Warehouse Sale Is the First Sign of Fall Fashion

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It might seem counterintuitive to go shopping for fall clothes when going outside today is akin to face-planting in a bowl of hot soup, but seeing what's at the La Garconne warehouse sale will make you think otherwise. We arrived about a half-hour before it was scheduled to open this morning—though no one at the doors seemed to mind—to find Isabel Marant, Acne Studios, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Proenza Schouler, T by Alexander Wang, Tsumori Chimato, Rick Owens, and so many for at exactly 70% off retail prices, pretty much all in a Kim-Kardashian approved palette of black, white, and neutral tones.

We're going to let the items speak for themselves in this report—scroll through the gallery above to see prices and sizes (where applicable) on nearly 50 items that caught our eye this morning. We'd recommend starting in the back with shoes and bags, where there's mountains of white boxes holding Isabel Marant booties and wedge sneakers on one side and a varied selection of footwear from Marc Jacobs, Rick Owens, Rachel Comey, and more on the other. Favorites included these baller Rick Owens sneakers for $396 (nearly $1,000 off the retail price) and Rachel Comey slides for $137. You'll find a pair of display shoes sitting atop a stack of boxes in size order. And speaking of sizes, while sizes 36 through 40 generally have plenty to choose from, certain styles only have a couple pairs available.

In this area is where you'll also find a small but spectacular selection of bags, including several Mulberry purses for $450 (from $1,500). Singular styles included a Proenza Schouler PS11 tote for $705, a 3.1 Phillip Lim Wednesday bag for $327.50, and a Margiela crossbody for $628.50—don't be surprised if these are gone as of press time, though.

The majority of the sales space is taken up by clothing racks, which are generally divided first by category and then by designer, with sizes all mixed up. There's considerable space given to denim, with brands like Acne, Isabel Marant, and Golden Goose well-represented. Some of our favorite items here were skirts, like a Steven Alan eyelet button-down skirt in ecru ($67.50) and a Simone Rocha neoprene skirt ($240.60). There's plenty of T by Alexander Wang basics to choose from, from soft tees and tanks to chunky knit hoodies ($105), as well as a section for $363 Isabel Marant Etoile black leather jackets (though we preferred a navy moto jacket from Proenza Schouler for $765).

Little attention is given to children's clothing—there's two bins by the purses—and menswear, which is represented by a couple racks and a small selection of shoes near the entrance. There is a partially-enclosed fitting area in the back with a large mirror, and you'll need to check your bag when you enter. And while the sale was very well organized when we were there this morning, we're imagining it'll get a bit more disheveled as more customers roll in. Expect restocking on the styles that are already on the floor over the next couple of days, too. The sale is running at 101 Wooster Street tonight through 7pm, from 10am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 6pm on Sunday.
