Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's 'Ridiculous' Wardrobe Blends Right Into Greenpoint

If your last stroll through Greenpoint involved you stopping and wondering, "Wait, am I currently inside a shoot for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt?" you're not alone. Star Ellie Kemper says that when she's in costume on location, onlookers assume she's just one of the crowd.

"It's so girlish, because she's dressing like a 14-year-old or a 15-year-old because that's her sense of fashion," she explained to The Cut during last weekend's New Yorker festival, adding that no one in the neighborhood noticed since "everybody there dresses like that."

Though lest you assume her wardrobe is that of a fancy hipster, it's not: "It's just bright, cheap clothing," said Kemper, who supposed that Kimmy would probably shop at — wait for it — Conway, the now-closed department store. Sounds about right.
