The Sandro Sample Sale Is Stocked With Fall and Winter Coats for Men and Women

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

As we expected, the Sandro sample sale starts this morning, following the sale for sister brand Maje. Similar to last week's sale, you'll find discounts up to 75% off retail prices on women's apparel — but unlike Maje, Sandro's sale also caters to guys. As we discovered at last night's preview, there are no true samples here, just overstock.

Womenswear start at $45 for tee shirts and tops off at $495 for fur coats (most are faux fur). In time for the dipping temperatures, there were a lot of wool coats, including some with leather trim and furry hoods, and parkas, both going for $275. There's also a large selection of dresses ($95), including a variety of black dresses suitable for multiple occasions.

We saw a nice selection of tops, including silk camis, perforated tops, and blouses with flowing long sleeves, all for $75. The racks of bottoms, including trousers ($85) and denim ($50) had limited sizing. There is a selection of skirts next to an even smaller selection of shorts — really, almost none — near the back, both for $75.

Standout pieces include a sexy black jumpsuit for $95 and chic white blazers for $150 that easily go from the office to happy hour. We spotted a few buttery leather jackets ($250) that are perfect for fall, but we didn't see many of the other leather pieces mentioned on the price list, such as leather skirts, shorts, trousers, and dresses.

In women's accessories, jewelry is $35, but we only spotted a couple of bright, beaded bracelets. There are also warm wool beanie hats for $30, scarves (cashmere, wool or polyblend) for $45, leather belts for $45 and gloves (including some leather) for $35. We saw neither small leather goods ($35) nor bags (small for $75, large for $150) at last night's preview. Same goes for socks, which would have been priced at $10.

Shoes for both men and women are toward the back. Most styles for both genders are priced at $150, with the exception of sneakers at $125.

Men's apparel is found on the left side of the room, except for the accessories (hats, gloves, belts and ties) that are by the stairs. Guys should make the trip to Fifth Avenue for the nice selection of coats available: Warm parkas, thick wool coats. and light jackets were all available, and well-priced for the quality, too. Regular coats (including a hooded wool coat lined with leather) are $265, and light coats are $195, while fur coats are $395 and the few leather coats that we spotted are $350.

A few racks are stocked with button-down shirts in white, blue, stripes, and patterns for $65. There are also thin long-sleeved and tee shirts for $40, while sweaters are $95. Near the front of the men's section, there are two racks of trousers ($85, almost all in navy or black) followed by blazers ($175), and vests ($50) that can be mixed and matched to make a full suite.

Dressing rooms here are only available for women — sorry, dudes. Despite the prices being a bit on the high side, there were still a lot of shoppers picking up coats and dresses last night. Markdowns are expected towards the end of the sale, but as usual, it is best to shop early for the best picks. Check out the Dealfeed below for the dates and hours.—Hsini
