Well, this is getting messy: Coach is suing its former creative director Reed Krakoff for unpaid rent and taxes on two properties he subleased from the brand when setting up shop for his now sort of-defunct eponymous label, according to The Real Deal. He allegedly stopped making payments in August and now owes more than a million dollars in unpaid rent.

When Krakoff launched his brand in 2010 while still at Coach, he did so with a flagship store at 831 Madison Avenue and eventually a Woodbury Commons outpost, both subleased through his employer (the Soho store that opened in January was a separate deal). However, Krakoff suspended design production earlier this year and eventually shuttered all three stores — but not without some major discounts and even a sample sale.

But just because the lights are off doesn't mean that the bills can go unpaid — so it's a good thing the Krakoff is designing again.
