Pricey Leather Dominates the Barbara Bui Sample Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Barbara Bui's sale at 151 Wooster began today, and the stock is all out on the floor, so it's best to stop by promptly. We saw everything from Bui's wild embellished jackets to classic shirts and pants at large discounts.

Upon entry and post bag check, we checked out the jacket racks directly to the left and found an ivory leather vest for $762, a leather and denim jacket for $461 (was $1,015), and a snakeskin pattern trench for $285 (was $691). That jazzy Rabari embroidered jacket in this post's cover photo (and in the gallery) is $1,203.

Moving onto the blazers, we loved a black one with a leather lapel for $450 (was $1,800) and a hot pink style for $308. We also saw a blush leather-trim vest for $230. There were plenty of black dresses on the racks, like a bandage style going for $328, but the best (and most popular) dresses were a white beaded flapper design for $192 (was $690), and a white leather dress with a turquoise beaded v-neckline for $748 (was $1,642).

Classic shirts in several colors are $67 (usually $300 and up). We also saw a tank top for $73 (was $160) and a sleeveless denim shirt for $129 (was $276). Sweater dresses ($177) in a few colors are available as well.

Shoes are at the back, and size-wise you're going to find the usual 6 or 7 sample sizes, with the occasional 9 or 10. The discounts here are around 60%. Spike detail wedges are $169 (were $391), a pair of velcro white sandals are $210 (were $486) and silver ballet flats are $93 (were $214).

There are many, many pants with all sizes still present, so keep a lookout for trousers ($69 to $144) and jeans ($94 to $130). We saw a few black leather skirts for $850, while basic black skirts are $102.

Finally, accessories include loads of belts from $15 to $88, and a small selection of bags and purses. We liked a black embroidered cross-body bag for $734, and a silver version for $264. A larger white leather bag is $365 (was $803). Since most of the stock is out, expect accessories to disappear quickly.
