Steven Alan's Sample Sale is Packed With Discounted Apparel, Clare Vivier Bags

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We dropped in to the preview of Steven Alan's showroom sample sale in Tribeca (Note that it's on Franklin Street, which is adjacent to but not the same as Franklin Place, which was previously advertised), and found VIPs already raiding the two floors' worth of stock. We're breaking it all down below so you'll know what to look for, in case you're on a mission for a particular item or designer..

As you walk in, check your coat and bag at the door. If you're here for apparel, head straight downstairs — the women's merchandise is through the doorway in the men's section, and rice lists are on the walls in case you need a reference. The outer racks in the room are all Steven Alan merchandise, while the center two racks have other brands.

For Steven Alan, women's shirting is $55 (available in XXS to L), pants are $65 (0 to 10), sweaters and sweatshirts are $75, dresses and jumpsuits are $85, and shoes and boots (stacked underneath the racks, sizes 35 to 40) are $85. Other brands' pricing are all as marked in red. We noted an Emeline jacket for $95 (was $465), Acne Arbor sandals for $240 (were $400), a Beardsley grey sweater for $75 (was $325) and a sleeveless shift dress in deep rust for $85 (was $325). There is also a round table full of mini Imogen totes for $120.

In the men's section, prices are the similar, except button-ups are $65, blazers are $95, and pants are $55. Wool coats are $145, and other outerwear is $95. Loungewear (aka long pajamas) and shorts are $35. We liked a Varsity jacket for $95 (was $260), some classic New Balance sneakers for $80 (were $160) and a nifty canoe sack for $25 (was $120).

If you're looking for accessories, stay upstairs from the get-go. There are many purses, with Steven Alan styles noted with pricing on the walls and other brands priced as marked. A Clare Vivier min-sac is $80 (was $267), a mini Inez bag is $70. and a Steven Alan circle bag is just $25.

Up here, there are also stacks of Lad sweaters for men and women in all sizes, all as marked from $30 to $150. Edith Miller tops ($20) and dresses ($35) are on shelves nearby, as is kids apparel ($25). Turn to focus on several bins in the center of the room, and you'll find everything from belts for $35 to cashmere scarves for $75, plus $30 swim suits and $15 underwear. Hats are $25 and gloves are $35. Here, we loved a Barbour dog coat for $59 and sunglasses for $50 each (reminder, there's also sample salesgoing on at their Brooklyn optical stores). Candles are right by the register, ranging from from $5 to $25.

Prices will be adjusted as needed as the sale goes on, so expect a few cuts — but not before most of the great things are drained out, likely by Friday evening. Hurry over to get the best of the best; see the Dealfeed below for more details.
