The ICB Sample Sale Has Apparel Starting at $5

The ICB sample sale kicked off this morning at 11am at 8 Crosby Street in Soho. Men's and women's apparel and shoes from brands like J. Press and are starting at just $5, and we spotted a good amount of women's samples from spring/summer 2015, too (sorry, no photos were allowed).

Prices are marked by colored stickers on the tag of each item. A small red sticker indicates $5; small yellow is $10; small green is $20; and small blue is $30. Items with large red stickers are $50, while large yellow stickers mean $80, large green is $100, and large blue is $150. Scarves are on a table along the left-hand side of the room and are all $20. There are a few beauty items ranging from $5 to $10, like shower gel, hand cream, and bubble bath soap.

First up is men's apparel by J. Press, where a leafy camouflage print dominates the racks. Shorts, tank tops, and polos in that print are all $5. There is a decent selection of pants (like a nice pair of green chinos for $10) and jackets in all sizes, but 30s and 34s are the most common.

Sport shirts and sweaters are priced at $10, and there are a few styles of each. Coats are mostly medium-weight and priced $15—$50. Notable styles include a quilted wool sportcoat ($50) marked down from $450, a silky bomber jacket with roaring tiger head embroidery for $20 (originally $395), and a hooded windbreaker priced at $20 (originally $295).

Women's apparel is in the back of the space. A rack along the left-hand wall is where you'll find most of the samples. A spring/summer 2015 tweed dress with a mesh racerback cutout for $100 stood out, as did a color-blocked gray and maroon fur vest for $150. Most of these styles are a size 2, but the racks along the back and right-hand wall have a better range. We liked a white wool and alpaca-blend walker coat in a size 10 for $100, and we also spotted a stunning blazer with metallic geometric jacquard embroidery for $50 in multiple sizes.

Pants are starting at $10, but we didn't see garment tags on a lot of the styles. There are a few silky, tailored styles, most notably an olive green pair for $50. Skirts are mostly minis, like a flared pink style for $5. Dresses are mixed in the racks, with a blue and white marble-print fit and a flare tank dress (both for $50) standing out. A white ribbed dolman sleeve sweater is very well stocked and priced at $80 (was $365). We also liked a super-soft gray turtleneck for $50 (was $365) and a layered gray sleeveless sweater for $30, plus a pajama-inspired white short sleeved button down for $30 (originally $225).

Shoes are on a table in the center of the back, and there doesn't appear to be a ton of back stock. Silver peep-toe Robert Clergerie wedges ($30) took up most of the space. Swear X ICB platform wedges in a size 41 are going for $50, and we liked a pair of furry point-toe LD Tuttle ankle boots in a size 41 for $50.

The rest of the women's apparel is in the center of the space, and should probably be skipped — the odd, outdated knits and athletic apparel by Chacott and Welcomfo Chacott are not worth looking at. We saw a weird green tube top with a butterfly print detail in the top right corner for $5, and pretty much stopped there. There are a few sweaters by Cardigan for $50 to the left, but no styles of note.
