Nolita Is Officially the Consignment Capital of Manhattan

2nd Time Around

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

All those looking to participate in the long-held NYC tradition of lugging your old clothes to a store and surrendering yourself to the merciless judgment of impossibly cool store clerks, consider Nolita your one-stop shop. With the opening of yet another 2nd Time Around—Manhattan's tenth!—it's clear that the neighborhood is the consignment capital of Manhattan.

The store, located at 55 East Houston Street, will celebrate its grand opening from July 30th through August 2nd with 20% off all merchandise and a higher-than-average 50% consignment split, according to Bedford and Bowery. It'll still have heavy competition, however, with similar stores like Resurrection, Ina, Ritual, Fillmore & 5th, and others nearby.

If that address sounds familiar, it's because it's the old home of Civilianaire, the SoCal-based denim brand that after two years, closed its doors this March, then mysteriously reopened in April. This time, however, it appears to be gone for good, as 2nd Time Around's signage is already up.

No word if the chain will keep its existing Nolita location—considering it's less than a block around the corner at 262 Mott Street, we're guessing not—but we've reached out for information and will update when we hear back.
