The Billy Reid Sample Sale's Discounts Are Truly Insane

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Maybe it all has to do with timing—after a long streak of 90-degree heat, this morning finally felt like the beginnings of fall—but the Billy Reid sample sale, which we previewed before the doors opened this morning, feels unmissable. It's stocked with everything from wool trousers to tartan blazers, velvet skirts, and Nordic sweaters, and if the thought of cooler days to come won't get you in the door, perhaps the crazy discounts will: In both the men's and women's sections, markdowns reach 80% off nearly across the board.

We'll start with the womenswear located on the left side of the room, where sizes run from XS to L. Dresses, from work-appropriate sheaths to worker jumpsuits, are all $99, excluding the selection of adorable knit t-shirt dresses for a meager $39. Blouses like checkered button-downs and crisp white styles are $45, while sweaters are $69.

Skirts are $79 (there's a particularly adorable velvet one we nearly snagged for ourselves—check it out in the gallery above), as are wool trousers. A small selection of leather pants are $199, marked down from $1,000. The gorgeous and varied racks of outerwear are the most tempting of all—you'll find heavy, multicolored coats in bright patterns and unique textures for $199 apiece.

The women's shoe selection is equally fantastic—oxfords and other flat shoes, as well as heels and sandals, are $79, while both ankle and knee-high boots are a mere $99.

For men, there are about four giant racks of button-downs in myriad patterns for $49, which look great paired with the rainbow of casual pants and denim for $59. For dudes with a special occasion coming up, suits (a sport jacket paired with dress pants) come to $249; separately, blazers are $179, and dress pants are $79. As with women's, sweaters are $69, and heavy outerwear—there's plenty of preppy-cool tweed and wool varieties—is $199.

As for guys' shoes and accessories, there's a small selection of ties and bow ties for $19, while unisex belts are $29. Oxfords and loafers are $99, boots are $149, and a collection of K Swiss men's sneakers run between $29 and $45.

Even better news: There's a fitting room, as well as a few stray mirrors around the sale space. Plus, there'll be tons of restocking—the staff showed us the back room, which is filled with boxes of extra merchandise. You've got until Sunday to shop; check out the details in the Dealfeed below.
