The Cadet Sample Sale Stars Gorgeous Wool Coats and $40 Shorts

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Cadet sample sale promised us $40 shorts, $100 jackets, and discounts of up to 80% off retail prices, and the Cadet sample sale delivered. We stopped by the local brand's West Village store when it opened at 10am this morning and found the exact styles we'd been hoping for, from fall-ready blazers to tweed shorts and aviator jackets.

The sample sale takes up the entirety of the admittedly teensy store, which boasts an advantage over typical showroom events with a good fitting room. Upon entering, you'll notice a rainbow-hued rack of medium-weight shorts ($40) next to a few boxes of hoodies ($30). On the central table, you'll find stacks of soft pants organized by size, some with trendy gathers at the ankle, all going for $50.

Racks lining the walls have both long-sleeved and short-sleeved button-downs for $50 in fun patterns—think flamingos and stars here. Nearby are simple graphic tees ($15) and long-sleeved henleys ($30). Finally, racks in the back of the store contain Cadet's excellent selection of Aviator jackets ($100), lightweight long parkas ($200), vests ($75), blazers ($100), and heavy wool coats ($200).

You've got all through Labor Day weekend to stop by—and if your (or your best dude friend's) closet is lacking transitional weather staples, we recommend you do so.
