This week's rainy weather hasn't stopped the crowds from flocking to the Madewell sample sale, but luckily there are still plenty of cozy sweaters and other winter staples to go around. We stopped by yesterday evening to see what remained after opening day and found that there are still tons of pullovers, cardigans, and sweatshirts ($35), especially in black, white, and cream — although there’s no shortage of colorful numbers, either.
However, the supply of leather jackets ($250—$300) is dwindling, as are the winter parkas with fur-lined hoods ($150). But the mid-length wool pea coats ($150) and heavier blazers ($120) are still well-stocked, and there are a few different styles to choose from.
Dresses ($30—$60), ranging from casual to night-out to office chic, are still abundant, as are the jeans. Denim ($40) is available in all washes, cuts, and colors, from super-skinny to slim boyjean, in sizes 24 through 30.
You’ll also be happy to find a bounty of flats, as well as some oxfords and sandals, in sizes 6 through 11 ($65), plus tons of pumps (especially in colorful suede) and ankle boots ($100). Tall boots, however, seem to be tapped out, as do the silk Madewell x Sezane tops.
Over in the bag bins, we did spot a few remaining Rivet and Thread totes, but overall this area was starting to look a little picked-over. We mainly saw camel-colored satchels and other medium-sized bags ($90), with just a few large totes ($130) floating around.
The bins for scarves ($20) and socks ($10) also looked pretty depleted, and most of the other accessories — hats, umbrellas, iPhone cases — were gone, though we did like spot some cute $10 slippers. The small jewelry display case is worth a visit for chunky bracelets and long gold necklaces ($20).
Sizing is plentiful all around, especially when it comes to the denim, sweaters, and dresses, though those on either end of the spectrum (XS and XL) were harder to come by. There seems to be no shortage of items in M and L.
