Restoration Hardware Is Bringing a Store, Restaurant, and Hotel to Meatpacking

Gansevoort Plaza is about to be dominated by Restoration Hardware. As previously rumored, the home goods chain is establishing shop in the Meatpacking District unlike ever before: Crain's New York confirms that 55 Gansevoort Street will soon be home to not just a giant store (which we already knew), but also the brand's first-ever hotel and restaurant, putting itself squarely in competition with neighboring lodging options The Gansevoort and The Standard.

Though Restoration Hardware had yet to comment, the business publication says that the 14-room hotel will be like a functional showroom, filled with the brand's own furniture and fixtures. We're expecting the flagship store to have that same new look that the Flatiron store got last week—and as for that restaurant? Fine diners know that Pastis moved out from this space last year, with the owner planning to return to Gansevoort Street in 2016; last we heard, negotiations for the mystery space were ongoing.

This complex will be part of a new era for the Meatpacking District with fashion both high and low (see the just-opened Stephen F and the just-announced Madewell) returning to the neighborhood. But before that era will come plenty of construction, like the project that's displaced the Owen boutique.
