Long Island Couple Busted for Importing Counterfeit Ray Ban, Gucci, Michael Kors

How far are you willing to go to get your hands on designer goods? One couple is going to jail for allegedly importing more than 130,000 counterfeit items like fake watches and sunglasses and conspiring to sell them in Manhattan (among other places) for millions, Gothamist is reporting.

The Long Island couple, husband Le Fu Chen and wife Hai Fan Huang, will each be charged with one count of conspiring to traffic in counterfeit goods, and one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods. It all started when federal agents noticed that postal service businesses in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Staten Island, and Long Island were receiving large amounts of packages from China, tipping off authorities because "importers of foreign contraband often direct their shipments to postal service business so that the importer doesn't have to provide any identifying information" for the goods to enter the country, the site says.

From there, authorities figured out that Chen and Huang would pick up the packages after forwarding them to New York. Here's where it gets good: While stalking out the couple's home in Roslyn Heights, officials found "a sheet of stickers bearing the 'Ray Ban' trademark of the size and design suitable to be placed on boxes or tags for sunglasses and a sheet of paper showing the designs," as well as "types of various designer handbag brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton."

Sounds like no one told this couple that those flocking to Canal Street to score a deal these days are passing up LV for more contemporary brands like Michael Michael Kors and Tory Burch.
