Greenpoint Boutique Violet Pepper Has Quietly Closed Its Doors

That's it for Violet Pepper, the indie boutique that was founded by a Dalaga alum in September of 2013. The store's Instagram account announced that it was closing just before Memorial Day, with a caption that read: "Final week. Come by and say hello/goodbye and see what's left!" A "For Rent" sign hung in the window.

"One day it just hit me and I said, "I want to do this, I want to have my own store and do what those girls do so successfully over there."' owner Jade Elzien told Racked of her decision to start her own business (that she named after her daughter).

"I had to have affordable pieces but not cheap pieces," she said of what she kept on the shelves, which generally ranged in price from $36 to $150. "I don't have a ton of money to spend on clothing, but when I do spend money on clothing, I don't want it to fall apart in three months."

And those affordable pieces are even more wallet-friendly right now: Although the Manhattan boutique is closed, there is still a (very) small selection of apparel, shoes, and jewelry on its website—and almost everything is half-off.
