Google Isn't Opening a Soho Store After All

It appears Google may have decided against opening physical stores. The tech giant had planned to sell its line of laptop and desktop computers, as well as Android phones, at what would have been its first-ever retail store at 131 Greene Street. Now, Crain's New York is reporting that Google is saying goodbye to all that: The company put the 5,442-square-foot location on the market, asking for $2.25 million in annual rent.

If the address sounds familiar, it's because prior to Google spending $6 million to renovate the space, it was home to several short-term retail spaces like BaubleBar's pop-up shop and Vanessa Bruno's first standalone shop in the United States. Fashionable neighbors on the block include Dior, Costume National, and Proenza Schouler, and it would have been right around the corner from Apple's Greene Street outpost.
