Tone House Is Moving to Murray Hill to Accommodate More Students

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Those famous (or perhaps infamous) orange bungee cords at Tone House are about to get a bit longer. Well and Good reports that the gym featuring high intensity group training classes—with some hot trainers, to boot—is ditching its second-floor digs right outside of Union Square for a space in Murray Hill that's three times as large.

That not only means that the studio will now be equipped with proper locker rooms, showers, a lounge, and a retail space, but also will include "other surprise amenities," as COO Elvira Yambot told the wellness website. The maximum class capacity will also increase from 14 students to 30, so hopefully more students will get a chance to participate in the on-demand workout.

And if hurdles, TRX drills, and sandbag lifts weren't enough, Yambot also told Well and Good that classes could get even harder. "The distance we'll have for speed work and sprints will be much [longer]...that will be an added challenge to the workout in and of itself, just changing how far the person is running and crawling." At least you've got a few months to train for this—the exact move date (and the new address) was not specified, though they're looking at a winter relaunch.
