West Elm and Shinola's Dumbo Waterfront Stores Are Making Progress

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Practically every neighborhood in New York City has some major construction project going on right now—and in the case of Dumbo, that's Empire Stores, a 500,000-square foot complex that'll be comprised of office space, eateries, park space, and (most importantly to us) retail tenants like West Elm and Shinola. Our sister site Curbed NY took a look at the site recently—remember, this is different than Staten Island's Empire Outlets—and heard that work is on schedule to be completed in November.

However, that doesn't necessarily coincide with grand opening dates for these brands: "The tenants will open at different times once they take possession of their spaces," an Empire Stores representative said. Check out the progress below and venture a guess for yourself as to when they'll open—in the meantime, we'll check in with Empire Stores to see what other brands we can expect here.
