Katie Holmes Thinks That Harsh New York Winters Build Character

The next time you find yourself about to curse New York's bitter cold weather, pull your winter coat tighter and shut your mouth. Katie Holmes, the superior New Yorker that she is — she did find herself in Penn Station in a ball gown and heels, after all — counts the city's crappy winter as one of the best things about living in the city. As the actress told Ocean Drive, "I think the harsh winters give you a little bit of character."

Holmes also added that she gets her kicks from walking around the city, which we're sure she totally does all the time like us normal people. "If you're having a bad day, you just take a walk, and it's not only that you see people who are having a worse day than you, it's just that you're in life." Though when you are walking through a private entrance to Whole Foods, everyone is probably having a worse day than you are.

Despite that, Holmes wants you to know that she is very normal, notwithstanding a certain famous ex and working in Hollywood. In "daily life, I take a train and cab; it's just about getting from here to there, and I don't care how I do it. I have to get there."

And if you had any doubts about her status as a New Yorker, she even has a cracked iPhone that she's "just been too busy" to fix. That sounds about right.
