Hang Out at Soho Concept Shop Material Good, Even If You Can't Afford Anything

Don't be fooled by the expensive watches and luxe decor here — Material Good is just here to chill. "I want people to be able to come in, and, you know, enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of Champagne, not necessarily just to buy something. Just to hang out," co-owner Rob Ronen told T magazine about the space that opened last week. Good thing, because only a certain subset of shoppers will be able to afford what's here, from Anita Ko and Jemma Wynne jewels and Fred Leighton vintage pieces to Audemars Piguet watches and Basquiat artwork.

The second-floor space is accessible from Wooster Street by an elevator and two guarded doors, so prying eyes can't see what's going on from the street. Further highlighting the privacy here are the separate rooms where customers can take a seat and stay awhile before hurrying out the door with their purchase. "This is really an encompassing store, but it's also all about being discreet," interior designer Meg Sharpe explained to the magazine, adding that she took inspiration from stores like Colette and Dover Street Market.

So the real question here isn't what you're going to buy — it's whether you'll first beeline for that shearling hammocked daybed or head over to that foosball table in the corner.
