Judging by recent decisions made by many retailers, opening a location in Dumbo is a smart move. Equinox is the latest business to make moves in the neighborhood with plans to open a 22,000-square-foot gym next spring, according to the Commercial Observer.

It'll share an address with Etsy at 55 Washington Street, at least until the online marketplace moves to its new headquarters at the Dumbo Heights tech campus. The luxury gym is yet another newcomer here: Detroit-based watchmaker Shinola is headed to the forthcoming Empire Stores just a couple blocks away, joining the neighborhood's relocated West Elm.

The new outpost in Dumbo isn't the only major move the fitness chain is flexing these days. It's also planning to open on top of the famous Katz's Delicatessen on the Lower East Side, and down the line will an entire healthy hotel at Hudson Yards.
