Racked's Hottest Trainers on Their New Year's Resolutions

As the end of 2015 approaches and 2016 sits on the horizon, we're taking a look back at the most notable (and fun!) news of this year and looking forward to what's to come in the next — it's the Year in Racked.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Have you been wondering what Racked's Hottest Trainers have been up to this year? Same. We tapped the class of 2015 — which includes master instructors from the likes of Peloton, The Fhitting Room, CityRow, and Barry's Bootcamp —€” to share their 2016 New Year's resolutions with us, both within and outside of the realm of health and fitness.

Need a refresher on what makes each of these trainers so awesome? Click on their names to see their profiles from our summer contest.

NYC's Hottest Trainer 2015 Contestant #12: Danny Zapata, Cityrow

Danny Zapata, CityRow (above): "I resolve to not be as concerned about having the best 'Fire Island six-pack' or perfect perky bubble butt, but rather the strongest abs and the strongest butt — the operative word is 'strong.' This year especially, I've come to realize that even the 'hottest' trainers have their little nit-picky body complexes. We are human. At the end of the day, I'd really like to focus more on being strong first and not worry about the aesthetics of the human body as much. We'll see how it goes!"

Francesca Valarezo, SLT (below left): "My fitness resolutions are to advance my yoga practice and to become really good at boxing! For non-fitness resolutions, I'd like to build positive and stronger relationships with people and to inspire others to love each other more and trust in themselves, their talents, and their aspirations."

Samantha Skolkin, Kore New York (above right): "My fitness resolution for 2016 is to turn pro. My long-term goal is to make it to the Olympia stage one day, and I am not one to ever give up. I have been knocked down several times before and had people tell me that I can't do it, and so far I have proved every single one of them wrong and I will continue to do that. I love to motivate other people and help them reach their goals, so I would also like to try and help as many people reach their goals as possible. I want to be the reason that somebody looks at me and says, 'Because of you, I never gave up.'"

NYC's Hottest Trainer 2015 Contestant #16: Matt Nolan, Barry's Bootcamp

Matt Nolan, Barry's Bootcamp (left): "For fitness, I am training for marathon number two, growing my personal training and certifications, and teaching more. The non-fitness thing I'm looking forward to in 2016 would be my wedding on March 25th — it's so close, I can't believe it, and cannot wait!!"

NYC's Hottest Trainer 2015 Contestant #10: Rachel Nicks, BFX

Rachel Nicks, BFX Studio (right): "I'm always continuing to add new tricks to my trade. In late 2015 I was certified in Pilates, and I'd like to see that and other disciplines flourish. At BFX Studio, we like to remind our clients and students that you can't change your body if you don't mix it up. It's important to practice what you preach. You'll definitely see my personal brand and business continue to grow, which includes working with maternal health and fitness and focusing on women's health. Outside of fitness, I'd like to book a game-changing acting role!"

Amira Lamb, New York Sports Club (below left): "One of my health-related focuses for the year is to be more consistent with sleep. It's an underrated topic when it comes to health, from its impact on recovery from training to longevity. This is important since I turn 40 in 2016! I might return to the stage as an IFBB Pro bikini competitor, but I can't say that is a resolution — I compete because it fits my lifestyle and it's a fun challenge. My non-fitness intentions for the year are to visit my parents more often and to get more involved in community volunteer work."

Sadie Kurzban, ((305)) Fitness (above center): "My fitness resolution for 2016 is that I'd like to cook for myself more — I'll aim to do that three nights a week. My non-fitness resolution? I always had a knack for languages as a kid. I speak French and Spanish fluently, and it's such a thrill to keep learning. So this year I'd love to learn a new language...Hebrew or Mandarin, or something really different."

Shayne Cureton, Tone House (above right): "I'd like to eat better and run more, and also learn another language."

Amanda Butler, The Fhitting Room (below left): "My fitness resolutions for 2016 are to attend a yoga class once a week and to attend a dance class at least once a month. A non-fitness goal for 2016 is to take more time to spend with my family."

Robin Arzon, Peloton (above right): "My fitness-related resolution is to complete my first triathlon, and one that's not fitness-related is traveling more."

Akin Akman, Soulcycle (lead photo): "I am used to being very active and leading a healthy and positive lifestyle, so I don't necessarily have any resolutions for the new year. I just look forward to continuing to stay fit and have fun with my job and the people close to me."
