Ernest Alexander's Sample Sale Has No Shortage of Button-Downs

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Menswear label Ernest Alexander is well into Day Two of its summer sample sale today, and since we liked their winter sale so much, we headed by the showroom-turned-sale space this morning to check it out. Though most of the true sample bags have already sold, there were plenty of accessories and button-downs to choose from—all at under $200— still left in the store.

Belts and neckties are laid out in the forefront of the store, with belts priced at $29 (from $125) and ties at $24 (from $95). Though not the most abundant, there are still a few styles left to choose from. Next we found messenger bags, totes, small briefcases, and duffel bags, which employees estimated would be quick to go this afternoon. We liked the Porter roll duffel for $129 (from $495) and the Alex wax briefcase for $149 (from $395). There was only one left of each still available this morning, though there are several of the Watson wax briefcase ($129) which is similar, but with different pockets.

For apparel, there were plenty of men's button-downs still on the racks in a variety of sizes and styles. Selling both long ($49) and short-sleeved button-downs ($39), we saw that there was slightly more variety in sizes small and medium versus large and extra large. Of the shirts, we liked a quirky jellyfish-print short sleeve button down in a size medium. In addition to shirting, there was a small selection of men's outerwear, like the Eaton blazer ($189) available in a light and in a dark grey, and the Kingsley raincoat ($198) in a traditional yellow.

With up to 75% off styles in this small but super-organized and surprisingly uncrowded venue, it's definitely worth stopping in to check out what's still available. The sale runs through 7pm tonight and from 8am to 7pm tomorrow on the 4th floor of 15 West 28th Street.
