Opening Ceremony surprised us with a move across the river to Williamsburg for their semi-annual sample sale, but the deals and merchandise continue to be the same as ever—that is, there were tons of international and under-the-radar designers to dig through at last night's preview, and the deals are definitely worth traveling for.
Inside the garage-like event space, you'll find womenswear on your immediate right upon entering. Opening Ceremony's house label is up first, and it's the cheapest apparel here—most of it is under $100, and it includes collabs, mainly the surrealist Magritte collection and the flower-happy Thierry Boutemy. Stock is varied: We spotted space-like pleather skirts, simple button-downs, work-appropriate dresses, and even true samples, which were priced lower.
Though the sale features countless designers, those who had substantial stock represented were Veronique Branquinho, Moschino, Proenza Schouler, Christopher Kane, J.W. Anderson, and Xiaou on the more expensive end (think $300 and up per piece), on the less-expensive end, there was Band of Outsiders, Rachel Comey, Kenzo, Sen Wye, Kiko Mizuhara for Opening Ceremony, Mother of Pearl, Walk of Shame, and others.
Among the racks, we did spy a few rips and tears here and there—which makes sense, because much of the stock seems to be repeated from last winter's sale (though there's far less of it).
Around the corner past the men's section, and you'll find the shoes—again, there's a much smaller shoe selection here than there was in the larger Chelsea location last winter. Most of the shoes (chunky sandals, Chelsea boots) are Opening Ceremony, and are in the $100 to $200 range, but we did spy a few pairs of floral Manolo Blahniks for around $190 (flats) and $275 (pumps).
As for smaller items, the other half of the space is devoted to things like sunglasses ($30 to $80, though there aren't many), cutesy phone cases (around $20), key chains ($15), and art books (prices vary). There are definitely less substantial accessories (hats, sunglasses, etc.) than we'd hoped to find, especially before the official opening day.
All in all, stock wasn't quite as exciting as what we saw inside the larger Chelsea space last December, but if you're looking for crazy discounts on super unique pieces by hard-to-find designers, it's worth a post-brunch walk-through. Check out the Dealfeed below for the weekend hours.
