Fancy Luggage Store Arrives on 57th Street in Time for Holiday Travel

Here's a throwback to the days of traveling: Mosafer, the Middle Eastern luggage purveyor that's "focused on travelers and their comfort and convenience," just made its 57th Street debut, according to WWD. Well, part of it, anyway — the first floor is available to shop now, and the second floor will open up to customers in the spring.

It's the brand's first US store and carries 60 brands that include the likes of Samsonite, Hartman, Tumi, Bugatti, Porshe Design, and Lipault, hopefully luring in customers. The store will also feature a luggage repair department.

If that isn't enough, owner Ashraf Abu Issa tapped Günseli Türkay, a designer who's worked for Zara and H&M, to create an apparel line that'll hit stores in February. "Lululemon is very popular for traveling," Issa told the paper. "The problem is you can't wear it after the flight. You can't go to restaurants and business meetings. We want to achieve the same comfort and make clothing attractive enough to wear out."

Mosafer is also looking to create exclusive travel-sized beauty products with Clarins, Sisley, La Prairie, and Lancôme — seems like the company's thought of everything.

Issa noted to WWD that the rent is "very high" at its 13,400-square-foot space, and that's thanks to the luxury developments rising around it that are creating a new mini-shopping district. Bergdorf Goodman, for example, recently got into the 57th Street action by transforming what it previously referred to as its "back door" into a luxe jewelry salon.
