Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by the Staff USA sample sale this afternoon as soon as it opened to the public, and the showroom at 220 West 19th Street was full of gorgeous but expensive eccentric statement pieces alongside denim staples. There was a strictly enforced no photo policy this time around, so excuse the lack of imagery!

While past sales have been good for shoes and accessories, this one is almost entirely apparel, with just one rack for gloves, belts, and scarves. Most of what we saw was by DSquared2 and MM6 Maison Margiela, with some Maison Margiela and just a few pieces by Viktor & Rolf. The selection has a good mix of one-of-a-kind styles with a range of sizes. The showroom is separated into men's and women's sections, with women's in the front of the space and men's in the back, and both sections are a bit of a free-for-all in terms of organization.

We suggest heading straight for the MM6 Maison Margiela and Maison Margiela dresses, where you'll find a good mix of bright prints and solid black styles. Some of them are pretty disheveled, but we saw a gorgeous forest green maxi dress with a cape ($1,027), as well as plenty of tee-shirt and shift dresses. MM6 blazers are also here, and there's a lot of variety in terms of style and size.

There's skirts to the right of the entry door, where we spotted a few DSquared2 denim minis all in size 38, plus a standout green snakeskin miniskirt in size 42. There are quite a few coats and jackets, including DSquared2 leather biker jackets ($1,344) and parkas ($1,532), mostly in size 38. We also noticed a black mesh Masion Margiela jacket in a size 1, and MM6 puffer coats in neon green and brown colorways. The only Viktor & Rolf style that we noticed was a black patent croc-embossed jacket ($710) available in sizes 38—42.

There's lots of DSquared2 denim, with the "Cool Girl" jean ($237) appearing most frequently. A white pair of "Big Dean's Brother" ($262) jeans stood out as well. Be warned that the sales staff told us that the denim runs small, but wasn't able to advise when we asked for help with sizing.

Embellished button-downs were plentiful, but every single one was a size 38. There were also plenty of sweaters, but we thought that most of them looked outdated and frumpy. Included in this mix a DSquared2 sweater with pom-poms at the tops of the sleeves for $573.

The men's selection is smaller than the women's and is mostly jackets and pants. Two tuxedos with colorful size 48 metallic jackets in olive green ($1,028) and pink ($1,231) were available. Trousers and jeans take up the middle section of the floor, and Maison Margiela pants in sizes 10 and 14 are the most common. The DSquared2 jeans were mainly size 48.

Sport shirts and sweaters are hanging along the wall to the left, with tee-shirts on the back wall. There are more sweaters on the wall to the right, and a few jackets as well. Maison Margiela jackets with exposed white stitching at the shoulders ($747) stood out to us, and the multitude of sparkly pink sweaters were also hard to miss.

Note that the entrance to the sale is through the double doors before you hit the Crunch gym when you're walking east toward Seventh Avenue. From there, they have someone running an elevator right up to the 10th floor. The sale accepts credit cards only, and runs through Sunday; check out the Dealfeed below for more details.
