This Sample Sale Is Like Shopping an Indie Boutique for More Than Half-Off

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Update: The sale's been extended! You've got 'til Tuesday to shop. (Daily hours: 11am–7pm).

Located in the basement showroom space underneath the Meatpacking boutique, the In Support Of sample sale is just as good as we hoped—and maybe better. And even more happy news: Though originally scheduled to wrap up today, the owners tell us it'll be extended next week, too.

The first thing hungry shoppers will notice is the $25 rack—early crowds have pretty much picked it through, but there are still a few slouchy trousers and sweaters left. If you're looking for true samples, the only ones you'll find at the sale are Harbison pieces, which, while normally far on the more expensive end of the boutique's merchandise, are available for up to around 90% off—a tweed bustier that was originally $1,600 is a mere $50, the two purple and red coats have been discounted from more than $1,000 to $250, and those amazing tropical print culottes have been discounted from $1,250 to just $75.

Elsewhere, you'll spy some of our favorite indie brands like William Okpo (one of this year's Racked Young Guns!), Steven Tai (including that daisy print dress we spotted last fall, now on sale for $375), a Nanushka sweater, a Harare brocade top ($50) and gold gown ($238), a Mandarin & General cocoon coat ($237) and dress ($75) and more, all in perfect shape.

Sizes tend to skew on the small side, though in many cases, there are more than one of each item. And when we stopped by around 6pm last night, we were the only ones there—meaning you might even have the place to yourself.
