The United States is officially without a United Colors of Benetton. During a recent stroll up Fifth Avenue, we noticed that the Benetton flagship at 601 Fifth Avenue — which, as of July, was the only remaining store in the country — had closed its doors.

Though word came last month that the Benetton family had sold the building to a real estate company affiliated with the chairman of H&M, no one was sure of the storefront's fate. What we did know, however, was that the address is right between some of H&M's important Fifth Avenue stores — the 48th Street flagship and the soon-to-be second Manhattan COS and & Other Stories locations on 42nd Street — leading us to believe that the mega-chain could be eyeing the space as well. We'll keep you posted.
