When you enter the Fivestory off-site sale at 151 Wooster Street in Soho, you will feel like you just entered a stylist's closet—a big one at that—ready to outfit stylish men, women, and even newborns and toddlers. 260 Sample Sale's downtown venue is perfect because it's much bigger than where the sale has been hosted in the past. At this morning's press preview, merchandise was luxuriously spread out, and clothes weren't packed like sardines in a can on a rack, which makes skimming through apparel—of which there are hardly any repeats in styles—a lot easier.
When you enter, you will first see merchandise marked 60% off and denoted by blue dots. Here, you'll find a collection of children's apparel, toys, and shoes from the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Chloe, and Marni; plus women's dresses, tops, skirts, pants, and sweaters, and a large table stacked with shoes. Sizing is very limited, with most pieces available in a medium or large or size 37 and up.
This section has modern pieces like a Calvin Klein Bristoli dress for $1,380 (marked down from $3,450), a black and white Narciso Rodriguez reversible geometric print dress for $446.60 (was $1,116.50), a Jason Wu lace dress for $798 (was $1,995) and a Roland Mouret Betley wool and crepe dress for $1,060 (was $2,650).
We also spotted many stunner skirts, like a Balmain skirt with buttons for $1,020 (was $2,550) and a Giambattista Valli silk and cotton skirt for $678 (was $1,695). This was accompanied by a small selection of comfy sweaters, like a super soft cashmere collar cardigan by Tse for $758 (was $1,895), and more affordable pieces like white Acne jeans for $128 (from $320).
As you move further into the room, you'll find what you really came for: all the pieces marked down at 80% off retail. Expect to find more children's apparel, womenswear, and shoes, plus women's accessories and also home decor items (at both 60% off and 80% off).
There's also a smaller section—just four large racks—dedicated to menswear on the righthand side, which sat next to men's shoes and accessories (think silk ties, phone cases, travel cases, and the occasional large Valentino bag for $619, down from $3,095).
For 80% off, we found a Thakoon pleated dress for $475 (was $2,375), a Lyn Devon Annette dress for $259 (from $1,295) and a Carven beige trench coat for $298 (was $1,490). For men, we spotted Comme des Garçons orange chino pants for $72.10 (were $361) and Ovadia and Sons utility shorts for $49 (from $245). We also found a nice shearling hooded coat for $251.20, but that's just 60% off.
In the accessories section, jewelry is housed in a glass case near checkout. There are some gold cuffs, braided bracelets, and statement necklaces all at 60% off retail prices, like an Aurelie Bidermann bracelet for $160.80 (from $402). Nearby are a few pair of Acne sunglasses at the same discount for $148.
Lest we forget handbags, we found an Alexander Wang Fumo Continental leopard clutch for $138, a Narciso Rodriguez shopper bag for $1,038 and a Rochas leather tote for $510. There are also some shiny hardcase minaudieres from Kotur at 60% off, ranging in price from $158 to $480.
In the home decor items, we found Rene Magritte plates for $25 (was $125), Maison Kitsuné candles for $39.60 (from $99) and very fancy gold salt and pepper shakers for $75 (were $375). There are also a couple of coffee table books, like a Yayoi Kusama book for only $9.99 (was $49.95).
Finally—and luckily—there's a bigger selection of shoes at 80% off as opposed to are 60% off. We spotted the usual brands like Chloé, Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander Wang, Nina Ricci, Alexandre Birman, Laurence Dacade, Salvatore Ferragamo, Jason Wu, Gianvito Rossi, and more.
Unluckily, there are no changing rooms available, and most of the stock is already out on the floor (though we did see some employees stock more of the home decor plates). We'd recommend going earlier than later if you want to snag the best pieces. This sale hasn't had additional markdown in the past, but since it's at a new location, we're keeping our fingers crossed.
