The Latest on Saks Fifth Avenue's Financial District Debut

It looks like Saks Fifth Avenue's downtown debut is still on track for spring 2016 — but just barely. According to Fashionista, the luxury department store's second Manhattan location is set to open at Brookfield Place in June, more than a year after the upscale shopping center first opened its doors.

Saks' new fashion director Roopal Patel told the site that she's excited to inject younger designers into the new 85,000-square foot store, echoing the thoughts of former president of Marigay McKee. The downtown shop will differ from its uptown counterpart by "being more of a concept store ... and less about shops with big brand logos," she explained in February.

Concept stores seem to be something that Saks is diving into head-first these days: Plans for a menswear-only store were recently revealed, as was the brand's first-ever shoe store in Greenwich, Connecticut. These are in addition to the Manhattan expansion of Saks Off Fifth (Financial District and 57th Street locations are in the works) and the monstrous renovations coming to the Fifth Avenue flagship.
