Looks like someone is about to give Zara a run for its money on 42nd Street. We already knew that H&M was planning to hold onto its old Fifth Avenue store to install another brand there, and now WWD is reporting that unnamed sources are pinning COS to that address. If this is indeed true, it'll be the label's largest store in the world at 24,000 square feet.

While the brand didn't comment on this rumor, they were quick to assure the publication that the closure of an H&M location isn't indicative of its health in New York City. "After considering several options, closing this store was decided to be the best business decision," a brand spokeswoman said.

"Store closings can be [a] natural occurrence and we will drive our customers to the other 12 locations in Manhattan. At this time, we have no plans to close other stores in Manhattan." The brand has opened massive stores in Times Square, up the block on Fifth Avenue, and at Herald Square in the vicinity of this location within the past two years.

Now we just have to wait and see how long it'll take for the brand to convert the store from an H&M to a COS—remember, it took almost a year and a half from when the store was first announced in September 2013 (at a haunted address, no less) to when it actually opened in December 2014, and within that time frame, we gained an & Other Stories.
